The Anthrax Attacks Plot: What’s the story?
With the USA recovering from the heinous losses and casualties heralded by the 9/11 terrorist attacks in 2001, a fresh bout of terror is unleashed by the bioterror attacks in the form of dissemination of anthrax letters between September and October 2001.
Nationwide panic ensues when lethal letters carrying anthrax spores are periodically mailed to media houses and two senators of the Democratic party- Tom Daschle and Patrick Leahy- killing five and infecting 17.
Thus begins one of the biggest FBI investigations in the history of American law enforcement, delving into the ghastly world of bioweapons and biodefense in a nation already recovering from the disastrous 9/11 suicide attacks. Investigation into the deadly chemical reveals it to be the Ames strain, implying an inside job.
The hunt for the anthrax killer gets underway as interviews from directly-involved personnel reveal inside information into the bioterror attack while a parallelly dramatized re-enactment of events focuses on the prime suspect- the American microbiologist Dr Bruce Edward Irwins (Clark Gregg).
